When people ask "How did you get into roasting?", my response is "My kids made me do it."

With my wife in residency and me commuting daily to Arlington from Ft. Worth, we felt our daughters were not receiving the attention they deserved. They were young, ages 3, 1, and a newborn. Originally from San Antonio, we had no family in Fort Worth so daycare was our only option. It seemed almost weekly one of our daughters was feeling ill. An adjustment was needed. So we decided I would become a stay-at-home Dad. It was the best decision we ever made! But it came with consequences, I would no longer hit my favorite coffee shop on the way to work.

The solution was easy. I went on-line, ordered a small hot-air roaster, some green coffee, and learned how to roast. I had my fair share of mistakes but even so, the coffee was fresh. A few months later I upgraded to Swissmar drum roaster, which came pretty close to producing the sights, sounds, and aromas of its commercial cousins. Now I had the best of both worlds, a close family and good coffee!

In 2003 we moved to Victoria, TX and I remained home until my youngest entered kindergarden. It was then I started Victoria Coffee Roasters. That was 2007 and we have proudly been roasting some of the finest beans for local coffee shops, restaurants, and specialty retail stores in and around the Victoria area ever since.
